Rachael Coward works to activate spaces with research based work drawing from the heritage of a place. She works in a variety of media including printmaking, text, photography and film. After graduating with a fine art degree from Falmouth University in 2017 she maintains close connections to Cornwall, recently undertaking residencies in Newlyn Art Gallery and Back Lane West. She currently lives and works in Taunton, Somerset.
My practice is a process of activation. By generating visual and textual prompts to occupy spaces, I create environments that challenge their intended uses. The work exists as interplay between space and surface, resulting in open-ended experiences that leave the audience to fill the gaps with their own enquiry.
